What is the best way to ship a motorcycle?

6/1/2017

Shipping your motorcycle is not that easy as you would believe. You have to carefully choose a company that has done this many times and that knows exactly how to handle your bike and transport it safely. Sipping a motorcycle is more challenging than shipping a car because there are several specific things to consider before and during the transportation process.

What you should do before the motorcycle is picked up
You do not simply call the transportation company, put it in the trailer and sign the papers. There are several things that you need to do to make sure that the bike arrives safe and sound. First of all clean your bike and check for any pre-existing damages. Document the condition of your bike and you will be one step ahead in case of an insurance claim. Note any dips, chips or scratches and mechanical issues.
Take pictures of your bike from various angles, especially of the existing damage. Date all the details and show them to the driver when he arrives. The driver will also check the motorcycle before loading it into the trailer and every detail will be added to the contract and sign by both parties.
Then you should remove all lose items from your bike, because no company is responsible for those. So accessories that are damaged or lost will not be covered by insurance.

Should you empty the gas tank?
Although you do not have to empty the gas tank, package the motorcycle or remove the battery, there is one detail that you should keep in mind: a full gas tank means extra weight to pay for. That is why it would be better to drain the fuel to at least a quarter tank to reduce weight and drop the price tag on your transport. Usually, companies offer you a price quote when you contact them and give you a totally different price after the bike is loaded.

Why enclosed trailer?
Before shipping, the motorcycle will be covered with protective coverings and cushion to protect it from bumps and shocks and secure it with straps so it will not move at all during the transportation. The enclosed trailer offers many benefits, such as safety, protection, immobility and convenience. Safety is the biggest advantage offered by enclosed trailers. Soft straps are used not to damage your motorcycle in any way and special equipment to get in on and off the trailer. Being enclosed, means that it will not be touched by the elements, debris, trees and any other damaging objects and conditions.

What you should do when you receive your motorcycle?
Upon arrival, inspect your motorcycle for any damages. The company may reimburse you for the cost of repairs or pay for the repairs at a designated facility, depending on the situation and the insurance coverage.

Time expectations
Making a call to a transportation company and booking a service does not mean that they will be at your door the next day. That is why we advise you to contact the company at least a week in advance so that they have time to make all preparations and get the trailer ready for the transport. Also, when you call, you will be given estimate times, because there are certain factors to be taken into consideration such as bad weather conditions or traveling mishaps. Delays usually do not take more than three days, unless something really bad happened. Be prepared if such a situation occurs.

Nationwide Car Shipping Service

6/2/2016

Nationwide car shipping service is a common service today due in part to the many changes that have taken part in the economy in the last few years. In the past, the service was mainly used to ferry vehicles from dealers, rental companies, and the government as well as from manufacturers. The huge economy drop that has been taking place has seen most of these entities reduce their vehicle transport needs, and has thus led to transportation companies opening up the service to private clients.

What is a Vehicle Shipping Service?
Vehicle shipping service is a service provided to a person who is looking to transport their car within the USA. The vehicles can be carried to the main shipping points from where they are then shipped to their destinations in open or enclosed carriers.
It is a service that involves hiring a transport company, or an independent driver to ship the car from one point to another.  For many customers, the cost is the primary concern when using this service. Different factors influence the car transport cost. They include;

Distance
Distance is the major factor as most of the tariffs available in the market are based on mileage. The longer the distance that has to be traveled, the higher you have to pay.
Another factor that is considered is the route where you are located. You may find that you are located close to the delivery point, but the delivery price is still high. It is something that happens once the route to be followed by the driver and or transport crew is considered.

Location
Certain areas such as islands or across bridges attract higher rates due to the tolls. Transporting a vehicle across a state requires the use of a big hauler and tolls have a field day with them as they charge anywhere between a hundred and a hundred and fifty dollars.

Vehicle Model
The size of your vehicle affects the price that is quoted to you by the transport company. Bigger vehicles will take up more space in the hauler, and there will therefore be less room for additional cars. Vehicles that have modifications such as lift kits, low ground clearance can change the original vehicle body a lot.
Such vehicles will also attract higher tariffs as the carrier is expected to provide ideal accommodations for the vehicles that are being transported.
Seasons have a significant impact on prices quoted to the client for the nationwide car shipping service. During the cold winter months, most carriers head east and are booked by manufacturers for periods between two weeks and two months. It is, therefore, tough to get a car hauler during this season, and available drivers will, therefore, charge higher rates.
Hiring a nationwide car shipping service is the best way for you to move your car from one location to the next. The vehicle transport company is equipped with an insurance cover that provides full coverage for vehicles in transit.

Winter Car Shipping

Looking to ship your car during winter can be a bit tricky. As most of America get a lot of snow and bad weather, many roads stay close for many days.
States like, Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, South Dakota, North Dakota, Wisconsin, Northern Minnesota, Northern Michigan, New York, Massachusetts, Vermont and Maine, get really bad cold weather, heavy snow, winds and etc. Usually everything that going or coming to those states takes longer if at all possible.
Main cities will always be a better starting or ending point if you live somewhere off route. Most drivers in this time of year will go only on main roads, major cities, where there are dealerships and car auctions and more opportunity to get more loads.
If must ship a car during winter, you must take into consideration the weather delays. The carriers will do their best to keep with in the time, but they will have delays. Route from NY to FL that usually takes 2-3 days takes 4-5 days. East to west or vise versa, usually takes 7-10 days, on Winter delivery time can go up to 14-15 days if not more depends on the locations.
Due to less amount of vehicles needed to be shipped, prices go up. Drivers still need to cover their expenses but with fewer cars to share it. Some routes become so expensive that it is just better to wait to summer!
Shipping vehicles can be done more easily in the southern part of America. Even though it gets very cold there too, still in Georgia, Florida, North and South Carolina, Alabama, Texas, New Mexico and California, Car transport during winter is within reasonable timing and also prices.

Moving? Ship your car with a car transport company!

The stress that builds up during life changing moments can cause many headaches and blur your view from the finish line. During these times hundreds of things can go wrong if not planned right and even like this, inconveniences can occur.  Moving is one of the most stressful moments in a person’s life as it not only means you need to pack up your things and move them, but also because sometimes it means leaving behind people or places you love in search of better or more opportunities, it is a start of something new and unknown. During times like these, the last thing you need to worry about is how your car will be transported or thinking on spending even more money on a road trip simply to transport your car. Not only the trip will cost more but you’re wearing and tearing your car more, this can lead to new tires and oil change to say the least.

If you’re moving a distance greater than 200 miles, it may be more cost-effective to hire a car transport company to do the job. Your car would be safely transported to where ever you may need it.  Car transport services offer many possibilities for people that are in the process of moving in order to best fit their needs and help out in the process. Many times customers that are moving do not have a set place in their destination yet and need cars transported to storage facilities, dealers, commercial addresses or anywhere else. Car transport not only offers a personal door-to-door service, but also provides terminal-to-terminal or door-to-terminal services if need. Terminal fees may apply, however it provides a piece of mind for you in case you’re stressing for a delivery location.

Some moving companies offer car transport services as well, however it is important to inquire how your car will be transported as most cases car is not mounted on a trailer, it is hooked on the back of your moving truck. Although this will get the job done and all your belongings will be together, this will wear and tear your tires rapidly and easily and does not offer the proper protection for your vehicle. Remember, a moving company is generally specialized in moving household goods; a car transport company specializes in car transport services.

To help avoid delays in schedule it is very important that you provide your schedule’s flexibility during booking process; this will help agents provide your transport accordingly to your time. If you run on a tight schedule it is important you provide first available date for pickup and last available day for pickup. Car transport services although accurate and on time 95% of the time, unfortunately is not a guaranteed service as many things can happen along the way. Keep in mind that carriers not only have you as a customer but have pickups and deliveries along the way. If one customer fails to show up on time or gives driver a hard time with payment or paperwork, this delays the complete schedule, and no matter how hard drivers tries, this will affect your schedule. When tight schedules are on hand, routes are planned with your car as priority; however it is always important you have a backup plan in case a delay may occur.

Auction Car Transport

1/24/2014

Picture
Car auctioning started running as early as 1948 and it became a popular way to sell mostly used cars under an auction system. This was a great way to sell cars and avoid big sales drops in their boards. Little by little this system is gaining popularity although it is mostly controlled by used car dealerships. Many countries use this system to get rid of second-hand cars; however in the United States most auctions are closed as only dealers can access them and keep full disclosure while doing so.

Besides closed auctions for dealers, the United States also offers open auctions for the public. These are mainly used as a dumpster for repossessed cars, aging cars from rental companies, off-lease returns; trade-ins, or even cars seized by government agencies such as the IRS, DEA and FBI. Some insurance companies also submit their totaled cars to feed the salvage car market. Although used cars are the main focus of the market, new cars are also included in the auctions, especially when dealers want to get rid of unsold inventory. At an auction you may find many types of cars from off-lease, off-rental, company or fleet cars, repossessions, trade-ins, salvage, and even new cars.

An important thing when transporting a car from an auction is to provide the lot number where the car is located. VIN number and color are optional, however if available, it’s better to provide them. Many auctions will also provide buyer a receipt that must be presented by driver in order to take car, if this is the case it is extremely important that you provide this receipt and any other document to your transport booking agent so they can provide the driver with this documentation.  Delays due to missing paperwork can cause extra unnecessary fees. Remember that just like you have schedules to stick to, drivers have schedules they have to stick to as well in order to provide a safe and timely delivery.

When you buy a car off from an auction, you need to pay the price it went for, plus taxes and storage fees. All this paperwork is taken care by either the person bidding for you at the auction or yourself with personnel from the auction.  Once it has been paid off, auctions usually give a period of time where you can keep the car in storage free of charge or at a minimum rate until you arrange pickup or transportation. Make sure this is arranged before hand and paid in full before driver is there to pick up the car. These fees many cases are not greater than $50.00 and driver might agree to pay and later invoice you upon delivery; however this may not always be the case. Drivers are not responsible for these fees, and if he is not willing to cover this bill in order to take car, he is in all his right to decline taking the car and charge you cancellation fees. Make sure this arranged before hand to avoid misunderstandings later on.

Snowbird Car Transport

10/3/2013

Picture
Although Orlando is not one of the many locations that gets affected by snow every year, it is greatly affected by this season as many snowbirds relocate to Orlando from northern states during winter season. Orlando has a high peak of transportation in and out throughout the whole year; however winter season has the highest demand.

The most important thing you must keep in mind and have ready before starting to call dozens of companies for quotes are the dates in which you are planning to move your car. Dates will determine the price, delivery time and type of carrier you might want to use. Estimates you receive for shipping a car in June will definitely not be the same as shipping a car in December, not even if it’s the same distance and route. Winter has two high peaks: once winter starts and once it ends. Winter brings along the snowbirds that create the transport flow from north to south from September to November and from south to north from March to May.  During these flows, prices to ship against the flow are cheaper than to ship with it. The reason why is because demand is higher from one way than the other.

Due to the harsh winter conditions, some customers prefer to safeguard their cars as much as possible by transporting them via enclosed carriers. Transportation can also be done via open carrier and it commonly is, even during this season, however some prefer to pay the extra bucks for a better protection on the road. Shipping a car via enclosed carrier does not guarantee that delays will not occur, or, that mechanical issues are not possible.  Some customers believe it does for the money they’re paying, however there are no guarantees, it all depends on how good road conditions are and that no other unforeseen obstacles occur.

Snowbirds start moving as early as late September, early October to avoid delivery delays caused by bad road conditions and last minute bookings that can cost on average from $200 to $300 more. Because everyone is looking to come down, shipping north can become a bit of a hassle after the winter season starts to kick in as driving conditions are limited for driver trying to get into the northern part of the country. Prices skyrocket as well as risks are higher, however, sometimes money will not account for this risks and transportation is not possible at all until roads are cleared.

To ship a vehicle from Orlando Fl to Los Angeles CA is very common. This is a well traveled route and there are many driver who run it.

Most year prices are ranging from $900-1200 depend on type of car. The average for a mid size sedan is $1000-1100. The average for a mid size SUV is $1100-1300 and pickup trucks start at $1300 and up. Motorcycles usually transported in enclosed motorcycle carriers and the rates are starting at $900 and up.

While in transit your vehicle (car, SUV, truck or motorcycle) is insured by the carrier. Carriers on this route usually carry 10-11 vehicles on their truck and they must carry insurance to cover all vehicles. Most times they have insurance up to 1 million dollars and some of them even more.

Most carriers use hwy I-10 to drive from Florida to California. The regular transit time is 7-10 days, but we do have from time to time 2 team drivers who delivery within 4-5 days.

Before shipping your car to California make sure you did the following:

1. Take pictures of the car from all sides.

2. Make sure no personal items are left in the car.

3. Try as possible to leave the gas tank on a 1/4.

4. Prepare for the driver just the key, he does not need all the other keys you got.

5. Make sure the car battery is good, the driver not going to start the car for a few days.

6. If shipping during winter, it is recommended to add antifreeze liquid to your engine.

7. Make sure there is nothing flammable in the car.

Enclosed vs Open Carriers

4/18/2013

Picture
We find that customers are price oriented and make their decisions based on this factor, however sometimes this factor is not always the answer to determine proper vehicle transportation. We have set a list of pros and cons comparing both of these services in order to educate and make our customers aware of what are the perks of each option. This way when decision time comes, they are better prepared to make up their mind, besides the price tag.

As you may have heard before, the very popular saying of “you get what you pay for” is very true, especially when you come to the car transport industry. The more you pay, the more you can guarantee a professional and hassle free service.  However, this does not mean that a low budget is an immediate association for a bad service, there are great drivers all around that offer great transportation no matter the price. Then again, if your budget allows, take advantage of it.

The way to determine this is usually on the type of car being shipped. A high end, luxury car may not be treated the same way as a regular 4 door sedan. This luxury car will need different accommodations in order to be securely strapped and transported to its destination. Not only because the car requires more protections, due its expensive cost of repair in case of any damage, but because the owner will request these extra precautions as well.

Open Carriers

Open carriers are the most common transport type in the industry. It is more probable you have seen more of these carriers on the street than an enclosed. Even your average towing truck can be considered as an open carrier. Because they are easier to maintain, they have become a lot more accessible to customers and the high demand has given room to a high availability of drivers yearlong.  Also open carriers can carry up to 11 cars at the same time, providing more trips and loads for the driver. Because of these great advantages, prices to ship on an open carrier are more accessible when on a budget, and are easier to play around with. Security for cars is great as well; the amount of cars delivered is far greater than the damages that occur along the way. Unfortunately, many times these damages do not happen because of driver’s inexperience or negligence, but due to customer’s negligence and road conditions such as weather; making this one of the biggest disadvantages of the service.

Enclosed Carriers

Enclosed carriers are not as common on the streets as open carriers; however this does not mean they are less popular. Enclosed carriers are in great demand when it comes to transport high-end luxury cars, classic, sports and smaller cars if possible. One of the greatest advantages of enclosed carriers is that drivers are the best drivers in the industry as they are trained to deal with these high-end cars in order to secure them properly and transport them safely to their delivery point. They are specially trained to handle road situations in order to safeguard the cars they are moving. Also, the insurance offered by an enclosed transporter is the best insurance offered by the service, it can cover up to $500,000.00 in losses or damages.  The security offered is also another great advantage as these carriers are protected with metal or canvas walls, protecting the vehicles inside from weather, dust or other objects that can damage the cars. Because all these points are offered, prices to ship in an enclosed carrier are much higher than an open carrier. This is one of the biggest disadvantages. Also these carriers need very high maintenance and can carry between 4 to 6 cars at a time. Although the pay is high, it limits the driver to fewer jobs per route.

Motorcycle Shipping

Motorcycle shipping is a very common service that is now provided throughout the whole country and has grown considerable in the past years. There are many bike events and bike weeks that are hosted in hundreds of places worldwide and aficionados need to transport their rides where it is required. Dropping a bike in the post office with a couple of stamps will not do the trick, therefore you need to plan in advance in order to set up a motorcycle transportation service to pickup and deliver your bike safely.

Shipping a motorcycle is much less expensive than chipping a car as they occupy less space, however the distance transporting may influence for a higher quote than usual. Expedite shipping also will incur in an extra fee, still not as expensive as transporting a car. Another advantage of transporting motorcycles is that the majority of carriers use enclosed trailers only to ensure the safety of the vehicle during transit. Given that bikes are entirely exposed to the environment, weather and road conditions this is a major advantage. Open transport is also available, although it is not recommended, it is also an option.

When shipping a motorcycle, carriers mount them safely onto cradles in order to strap them properly an avoid them to be moving around in the carrier during transit. This avoids them from getting hit with other bikes and causing damages to the body of the motorcycle; you may have a cover over the bike to protect it from dust during transit as well. Some companies will require for the gas tank to be ¾ full to decrease the weight of the bike to its minimum. Removable additions such as saddle bags, antennas and other modifications are also required to be taken apart or to ensure they are securely attached to the bike to avoid them from falling off during transit and hitting other vehicles on the carrier as well as your own.

During the booking of your transport it is very important that you provide as much details as possible to your booking agent in order to ensure a proper and hassle free transporting experience.  Details as to where the bike is located and where it needs to be delivered are very important; therefore accuracy will guarantee a non changing price. If you change the locations later on or provide a general idea, prices might only be estimates and if working with a budget, this will cause you an inconvenience to later learn that the actual price is higher. Another very important thing is to provide your agent with your availability and your schedule if you are working by one, this way they can accommodate your needs as best as possible.

If you take careful consideration of all these small details, this will help guarantee a safer and hassle free motorcycle shipping experience.
